October is Breast
Cancer Awareness Month, a worldwide annual campaign involving
thousands of organisations, to highlight the importance of breast awareness,
education and research.

Breast cancer is the 2nd most
common cancer in the world Breast cancer ranks as the fifth cause of death from cancer overall
(522,000 deaths) The 1st most frequent cancer among women (25% of all
cancers). The most common cancer in
women Incidence increases with age All women are at risk
What is Breast Cancer ?
Cancer starts when cells begin to
grow out of control. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer,
and can spread to other areas of the body. Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can
grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas
of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it
too.
